Dear Saints,
Recently I’ve been reading through the book “Thank, Praise, Serve, and Obey: Recover the Joys of Piety” by Pastor Will Weedon, a well-known LCMS pastor. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving this month, I thought I would share a few words by Pastor Weedon which have stuck with me:
“When we are trained to perceive the great gifts that our loving Father provides for us through His Son and by His Spirit, then thanksgiving, intercession, and every form of prayer really do begin to flow naturally in our lives. We learn to sense the Giver behind the countless gifts and to confess our horrid blindness to those gifts apart from His revelation. The simple liturgies of bedside and table provide the framework–the trellis–from which this thanksgiving and intercession naturally and simply bloom forth into our daily lives. Prayer in this manner is not experienced as a burden. In fact, just the opposite! It is rather the growing consciousness that we live our lives in the presence of our most loving God, surrounded by His holy angels, into whose joyful praise we can join at any time” (pg. 46).
May our eyes all be opened to see and give thanks to the Giver, our Lord, this month and every day of our lives. A blessed November to each and every one of you!
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Groh
